Description:
This course aims to provide a basic knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the principles and applications of physics. The course will help students to: acquire a thorough gasp of the main principles of physics; and gain practice in carrying out simple experiments.

The introductory skills activities deal with key concepts including reflection, gravity, temperature, magnetism, measurements, elasticity and buoyancy.

The seven modules, which form the main body of the course, cover: mechanics; heat and energy; material properties; optics; nuclear physics; and electricity and magnetism.

Learners are encouraged to carry out their own simple experiments and relate what they have learned to everyday life.


Assessment may include: Assignments, examinations.

Entry requirements:
Students should be competent in mathematics GCSE or 'O' Level standard.

Media and methods employed: Printed text, tutorial support.
Students will need access to laboratory facilities for part of this course.
